Why do I need to have phone service with Venture Communications?

Phone service is required to provide all the other services we provide, including internet and digital cable TV. It’s the access point for every service, and how you stay connected. You can opt to not even have a phone, if you wish. However, the service will still be active on your account. Many of our customer find our phone service to be a valuable asset—especially for 911 access with wireless call drop rates in rural areas or if young children are in the home. What is a Capital (Patronage) Credit Account Statement?

Who should I call if I plan on digging?

Click here for SD One-Call Homeowner portal. 

Call SD One-Call at 811 (in-state) or (800) 781-7474 (outside of South Dakota) at least 48 hours before you dig for construction or home improvement projects. SD One-Call will help determine if there are any buried utility lines in your yard. The call is free and there is no charge for the utilities to locate their facilities by calling SD One-Call at least 48 hours before you dig. You can avoid costly repair bills that may be charged to you in the event facilities are accidentally cut. Calls to SD One-Call are answered 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.


What are the billing-cycle dates?

The billing cycle runs from the 12th of the current month to the 12 of the next month. Bills are received around the 15th and are due on the 5th of the following month.

How can I prevent telemarketing calls?

We have a feature, Telemarketing Call Screening, to prevent such calls. With this feature, any caller that shows as "unknown number" or "out of area" on a caller ID will get a message "to hang up if you are a telemarketer". And the even better news is that this only costs $2.50 per month! You can also add you number to the National Do Not Call Registry, which prevents some telemarketing calls.

How do I know if I have a message with voicemail?

When you pick up your phone you will hear a stutter dial tone if you have messages waiting.

How do I retrieve my messages?

Dial xxx-6245, or xxx-MAIL (Note: xxx = your local prefix)

To retrieve messages when calling from your home phone:

  • Press “1” for new messages
  • Press “2” for saved messages
  • Press “*” to return to main menu

To retrieve messages when dialing from a remote location or cell phone:

  • Enter your mailbox number/your phone number
  • Enter your password
  • Press “#” and  follow the voice prompts

When listening to messages:

  • Press “1” to play or re-play message
  • Press “2” to save message and go to next
  • Press “3” to delete message and go to next

Do I need a second phone line for Internet?

No. RUSHnet High Speed Internet allows you to be on the phone and Internet at the same time and doesn't tie up the phone line.

What are my mail server settings?

Incoming Mail: pop.venturecomm.net

Outgoing mail: smtp.venturecomm.net

How can I view or pay my bill online?

With Venture Communications paperless billing and online bill pay customers can save time and money by setting up an account. Online bill pay allows you to:

  • View your telephone bill
  • Pay your bill online
  • View previous bills
  • Choose to eliminate your paper bill
